National Poetry Day - LRC Poetry Slam

On Thursday 3rd October, Walthamstow School for Girls held its first ever Poetry Slam in the LRC to mark National Poetry Day.

Our poets performed a wonderful variety of originally written poetry to a jam-packed audience, leading to thoughtful and insightful discussion afterwards. We really enjoyed reflecting on our interpretations and personal responses to the themes raised. The quality across the board was exceptionally high and all students were winners, but three standout poems particularly resonated with the audience: Amelia 8S (“Poppies”), Chloe 9C (“Poem”) and Charli 11C (“Jams VIII”) all received book tokens for their brilliant performances – a big well done to all poets and thank you to everyone who came along to watch and support!

Many students have requested a repeat event and we hope to hold a second LRC Poetry Slam in the Spring term!
