Shaking Up Shakespeare

On Tuesday 8th October, the English faculty were delighted to welcome back Anthony Glenn and his performance of 'Romeo and Juliet.' This annual event for all Year 11 students included a one-hour performance of the play, in which a number of our WSFG students took on the leading roles! The interactive performance was greatly enjoyed by students and enabled all Year 11 students to see their studied Shakespeare text live in action.

The performance was followed by a one-hour workshop for 30 selected Year 11 students. Anthony Glenn led the drama-based workshop, exploring key moments in the play and character motivations through paired and small group performance activities. We heard from Juliet and her Father, Lord Capulet, as they discussed her plans to get married, as well as a variety of renditions of Romeo and Juliet discussing whether Romeo should stay with Juliet in Verona or leave to comply with his punishment of exile. All the students who took part in this workshop were absolutely brilliant, and we're so proud of the work they've done to better understand their Shakespeare text.
