The booklet below is designed to guide students through one of the most important education choices they have ever had to make.

Choosing their Key Stage 4 programme of study is a really exciting opportunity for them to reflect on what their curriculum strengths and interests are, as well as what career path they might wish to follow later in life. It is a chance to tailor a package of subjects and courses that they will enjoy and experience success in, which will provide them with a strong base from which to launch into the next phase of their education.

However, making these choices can also be quite a daunting and stressful time. That is why we organise a number of events to support and guide students through the process. We advise them to discuss their ideas with as many people as possible: teachers, form tutor, parents/carers and any relatives who have taken GCSEs and other Key Stage 4 courses. They should also read the booklet very carefully, as it contains vital information about each of the courses. If they are confused about which subjects are compulsory and which are optional, or what combinations of option choices are allowed, they are recommended to ask a teacher for guidance or see Mr Shackson, Assistant Headteacher.

It is also very important that all students and their parents/carers attend the Year 9 Options Evening, on 28th January 2025 at 18:00.

Many of the subjects that students will follow in Years 10 and 11 will give them the opportunity to gain GCSEs and qualifications. GCSEs in all subjects will be graded using a numerical value from 9 to 1, with 9 being the highest grade.

From amongst the option subjects, students are required to choose a total of four subjects. A booklet explaining the range of subjects can be found at the bottom of this page.
